What does a verger do?
The verger (kirketjener) typically has two types of task: maintenance of the church buildings and assistance during the church service. Maintenance includes such things as cleaning and making repairs. Assisting during the church’s services can involve ringing the bells, preparing the Eucharist, welcoming people who arrive for the service, and taking care of the technical side of things (microphones, power point projector, etc.). Furthermore, the verger may in different ways be involved in activities during the week, e.g. cooking for a gathering of the congregation, or being responsible for the church’s purchases.
